BFT Access Control Installation: The Inglewood Owner’s Guide

BFT access control installation in Inglewood typically runs $485 to $1,150 installed, depending on whether you’re adding a keypad, card reader, or full telephone-entry system to an existing BFT gate operator. We stock BFT-compatible control boards, receivers, keypads, and photocells on our trucks, and most installs are completed the same visit. The way most Inglewood homeowners discover the problem: the gate stops responding to the remote, or the keypad works sometimes and not others, or a new tenant’s code won’t program in. What looks like a remote problem is usually the access control unit itself, and the fix is more precise than people expect.

Which BFT Models This Applies To

BFT has been building gate automation since 1981, and their access control line splits across several series that aren’t interchangeable. The RIGEL series (RIGEL 5, RIGEL 6) runs swing gates and pairs with BFT’s MITTO remotes and CLONIX receivers. The DEIMOS BT and DEIMOS Ultra handle sliding gates and take a different control board entirely. The ARES and SUB lines show up on older Inglewood installations, and those boards predate the current plug-in receiver format. We’ve seen a DEIMOS board bolted into a RIGEL housing more than once because the mounting screws line up, and it never ends well. The part number you need is printed on a white label inside the control box, usually starting with a D, P, or R prefix followed by six or seven digits. If you can open the box and read that label to us, we can quote the exact part before we roll the truck.

One thing worth knowing on OEM versus aftermarket: BFT’s original control boards are the safe default, but there are two aftermarket receiver modules that many Inglewood owners use without trouble. They cost about $60 to $90 less. We install both, photograph what went in, and note it on your invoice so the next technician knows exactly what’s in there. We’re an independent gate company in Inglewood, not affiliated with BFT, which means we service the equipment honestly rather than steering toward a replacement operator when a component swap is the right fix.

Signs Your BFT Access Control Installation Is Failing

Signs Your BFT Access Control Installation Is Failing
  • Remote works at ten feet but not at thirty. The receiver antenna or the receiver module itself is degrading. In most cases it’s the receiver, not the remote. We test the receiver’s range with a meter before replacing anything, because a bad remote and a bad receiver show the same symptom on the surface.
  • Keypad accepts the code but the gate doesn’t move. That’s the control board failing to send the open command to the motor. The keypad checks out, the board doesn’t. It’s a board replacement in most cases, and it’s a part we stock for common BFT series.
  • Gate opens by itself at random times. This is usually a failing relay on the control board or a short in the keypad wiring. In Inglewood’s coastal air, we see more corrosion on the keypad’s internal contacts than other areas, which causes phantom opening signals.
  • New keypad codes won’t save. The memory chip on the access control board has failed. No amount of reprogramming will solve it. We replace the board, transfer your existing codes where possible, and test every code before we leave.
  • Intercom or phone entry rings but the open button does nothing. The relay that talks to the gate operator is dead. We bench-test the relay, confirm it’s the issue, and swap the part same-visit in most cases.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what BFT access control installation costs in Inglewood look like, parts and labor included:

  • Receiver module replacement (CLONIX or compatible): $245 to $385 installed
  • Single keypad replacement or add-on: $385 to $575 installed
  • Control board replacement (RIGEL, DEIMOS, ARES lines): $485 to $820 installed
  • Full telephone entry system with keypad and receiver: $780 to $1,150 installed

What drives the range: whether the existing wiring is intact or needs a new run, whether the control box has space for the new board or needs a housing swap, and which series you’re on. Older ARES boards cost more because the parts are scarcer. Newer RIGEL and DEIMOS boards are more available. Every quote is written and handed to you before any work starts, under Haven Standard Clause 1. The price on the paper is the price on the invoice. Our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers every access control install, so if the new part misbehaves within a year, we make it right at no charge.

BFT access control runs on low-voltage wiring, usually 24V, so the shock risk is minimal compared to line-voltage work. What trips people up is the programming and the compatibility matching. BFT receivers are coded to match specific remote families. BFT keypads have to be wired to the correct board terminals and programmed in the right sequence. Wire it wrong and the gate won’t move. Short a terminal by accident and you can fry the new board you just bought. If you’re comfortable with a multimeter and reading a wiring diagram, a receiver swap is doable. If you’re not sure which terminals are which on your specific board, we’d rather you call us than learn the hard way. We arrive with the right part, install it, test it, and hand you a printed record of what was installed and photographed before we leave.
