LiftMaster Access Control Installation: The Inglewood Owner’s Guide
LiftMaster access control installation in Inglewood typically runs between $650 and $2,400 installed, depending on whether you’re adding a keypad, a telephone entry system, or a full card reader setup with a new control board. We stock LiftMaster-compatible access control hardware on our trucks and can usually install a standard keypad or receiver the same day we diagnose it. Most Inglewood homeowners call us after a keypad stops responding, a remote quits programming, or a gate opens for a code that should have been deleted years ago.
Here’s the thing about access control on a LiftMaster gate: the opener motor might be perfectly fine while the access point fails. You’ll stand at the keypad punching your code and hear nothing. Or the gate will open fine from the button inside the garage but ignore every remote in the house. That’s the access control layer, and it’s usually a faster and less expensive fix than a motor replacement. Adrian Vance will tell you the same thing he tells every customer in Inglewood: Name what you found. Name what it costs. Name what you left behind.
Which LiftMaster Models This Applies To
We install access control across the main LiftMaster gate lines: the LA400, LA412, LA500, and the newer residential swing and slide series, plus commercial units like the CSL24V and CSW200. The compatibility gotcha most people don’t know: LiftMaster has moved through three different receiver frequencies over the years (315 MHz, 390 MHz, and the current Security+ 2.0 rolling code). If your keypad or remote came from a different era than your control board, it won’t program no matter how many times you try. That’s the first thing we check before selling any part.
OEM LiftMaster parts carry a 1-year manufacturer warranty and are built to match the exact plug pattern on your board. Quality aftermarket equivalents exist for keypads and photo-eyes, and they cost about 30 to 40 percent less. But we’ve seen aftermarket receivers that drift on frequency in coastal-adjacent weather, the kind of humidity Inglewood gets in June and July, and they fail early. For anything that carries signal, we recommend OEM. For antenna brackets, plastic housings, and simple mounts, aftermarket is usually fine. We stock both on the truck and we’ll show you the price difference in writing before the job starts.
Signs Your LiftMaster Access Control Installation Is Failing

- The keypad lights up but the gate doesn’t move. The keypad itself is getting power, which means the failure is between the keypad output and the control board input. It’s usually a corroded terminal connection or a broken wire in the conduit, not the keypad.
- One remote works, the others don’t. A single working remote tells us the receiver is alive. The other remotes either lost their programming after a power surge or the battery contacts corroded. If a power surge hit, the receiver memory may need a reset and reprogram.
- The gate opens for the old owner’s code. Codes were never fully cleared from the receiver. This is a security issue, not a mechanical one. We reprogram the receiver from zero and delete every previous code before adding yours.
- You can hear a click but the gate won’t engage. The relay on the access control board is firing, but the signal isn’t reaching the motor. This points to a bad relay driver or a control board that’s on its way out. It tests fine with a meter one day and dead the next.
- The telephone entry system rings but won’t open the gate. This is common with the LiftMaster TLE (telephone line entry) units in older Inglewood properties. The line voltage drops just enough during certain times of day that the DTMF decoder misses the open command. We test line voltage and usually find it’s a phone company issue, not the LiftMaster hardware.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Here are the installed price ranges for Inglewood, parts and labor included:
- Keypad replacement or new install: $250 to $550 installed. A basic wired keypad runs lower; a wireless Security+ 2.0 keypad with a weatherproof housing runs higher.
- Receiver board replacement: $300 to $700 installed. The OEM LiftMaster receiver board itself is usually $150 to $300, and labor covers removal, mounting, programming, and testing of every remote in the household.
- Telephone entry system (single line): $800 to $1,500 installed. Includes mounting, wiring to the control board, and programming the directory. Existing phone line required, or a cellular adapter adds $400 to $600.
- Full access control upgrade (keypad plus receiver plus photo-eye integration): $1,200 to $2,400 installed. This is for a gate that needs its entire access layer rebuilt while the motor stays.
Every price is written and handed to you before any work starts. You sign it, we do the work, you pay that amount. No discovery billing, no “while we were in there” add-ons. That’s Haven Standard Clause 1, and it applies on every visit we make in Inglewood. The labor carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if anything about the installation isn’t right within a year, we come back and fix it at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?

Access control is mostly low-voltage work, but it’s low-voltage work connected to a control board that runs your gate motor. A wrong wire landed on the wrong terminal can fry the board, and a LiftMaster control board is $200 to $400 by itself. The one thing you can safely check: your keypad’s battery (if it’s wireless) and whether the terminal screws on the board are tight. If you see green corrosion on any terminal, leave it alone and call us. That corrosion means moisture got into the housing, and tightening the screw will snap the terminal post off the board.
For anything beyond a battery swap, call (424) 380-7998. We’ll dispatch a technician who can identify the exact LiftMaster part your gate needs, quote the installed price in writing on site, and usually complete the job the same day. You get a photo record of what was found, what was replaced, and how it was set before we leave.
FAQs
A properly installed LiftMaster keypad or receiver in Inglewood should last 7 to 10 years. The factors that shorten that life are direct sun exposure on unshielded plastic housings, moisture intrusion at conduit fittings, and power surges from the older electrical panels common in neighborhoods near Centinela Avenue. A weather-sealed installation with surge protection typically lasts on the longer end of that range. If your access control is older than seven years and acting intermittently, call (424) 380-7998 for an honest read on whether it’s worth repairing or replacing.
Sometimes yes. A receiver with a single failed relay can be repaired by replacing the relay on the board, which we do in-house for about a third of the cost of a new board. Corroded terminal strips can also be cleaned and resealed. But if the board has water damage across multiple traces or the keypad membrane is cracked, replacement is the only fix that makes financial sense. We’ll show you the damage in a photo before we recommend either path.
A standard keypad or receiver installation takes 45 to 90 minutes on site. A telephone entry system with new wiring runs 2 to 3 hours. We schedule the time in advance when you call, and the technician arrives with the part matched to your LiftMaster model already on the truck. You’ll get a call with the technician’s name and photo before arrival.
We stock LiftMaster keypads, receivers, photo-eyes, and antenna kits on our service vehicles in the Inglewood area. We also carry parts for Mighty Mule, Ghost Controls, and DoorKing when a property has a mixed setup. If your gate needs a specialized LiftMaster board we don’t carry, we can typically source it within one to two business days. Call (424) 380-7998 and we’ll tell you in the first conversation whether the part is on the truck or needs to be ordered.
